I know that a person who does not produce enough insulin can get shots or take some kind of medication. What about people whose bodies ignore insulin? Do they take a certain kind of medication to make their bodies respond to insulin?
I have type 1 diabetes and am having trouble losing weight. I am just starting to take insulin to get my sugars under control and i seemed to have gained 7 pounds in a week despite exercising everyday and eating under 1300 calories for a week! Will i ever lose this weight or will I just keep gaining? Please help.
Your uncle Roy is obese according to his doctor. He has high blood pressure, and the doctor has prescribed cholesterol lowering medication for him, but not any diabetic medications, as Roy hasn’t progressed to that point as yet, althought a test done during his most recent physical shows that Roy has developed some insulin insensitivity. The doctor is also recommending that Roy lose weight, and that he begin some regular exercise. What condition has Roy developed (several of the possible answers below would work, but what is the MOST likely)?
a. Roy has Type 2 diabetes.
b. Roy has Type 1 diabetes.
c. Roy has heart disease.
d. Roy has metabolic syndrome, which means he is at increased risk for Type 2, but hasn’t developed it as yet.
