24 weeks pregnant with possible gestational diabetes! please help!?

I’m 24 weeks pregnant .. and did the 1 hour gestational diabetes test 3 days ago. My doctor called yesterday and said my level was 158 and needs to be below 140 and I have to go in next week (after 3 days of a special diet) and re-test doing a 3 hour glucose test.
Is 158 considered really high??
Has anyone else ever experienced this??
Is there a chance if I watch my carb and sugar intake and exercise more it will clear up??
Will it cause harm to my baby??

I feel horrible. I read up on it (online) and it says if I do have gestational diabetes that my baby’s pancreas will have to work harder. I am so sad thinking that something I might have done (getting the gest. diabetes) is causing my little boys new little organs to have to work harder. And the thought of him having any complications after birth is just heartbreaking.

I’m way stressed .. and would greatly appreciate answers from anyone who might have experienced this. Thanks!!
