How do I receive medical and dental care with insurance but no credit?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Recently my wife and I have stabilized our finances by entering a debt management plan. This effectively "froze" all of my credit cards not even leaving me my emergency card which I had paid about ,000 down on. They aren’t technically canceled but I am unable to charge anything to them until completion of my debt management plan.

My wife and I both have medical, dental, and vision insurance but no credit. How do I receive health care since they bill you the full amount minus the co-pay immediately? I have a broken tooth that I know is about to give me a one way ticket to immobilizing pain but we still live paycheck to paycheck with about 0 going into savings per month. There is also my diabetes which is going untreated and my wife has cavities that need to be filled. Is there a medical deferment or payment plan possible? I really have no idea what to do and I am getting very limited information searching on google. We have Cigna for health insurance and Advantage Dental.

Some problems with my Diabetes, need help……?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Ok, Im 16, been diabetic since I was 13, I dont seem to be controlling my diabetes very well. My HBI1c (or whatever its called) has been around 10-12 over last 2 yrs.

I also still eat sweets, sort of not accepting that I have the condition. Diabetes really gets me down, and makes me feel different to my friends and brothers.

Has anyone got any tips to help me come to terms with the condition, as I want to keep it under better control and steer clear from future complications that could result in early death.

Does my dad’s symptoms signify diabetes?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

He is 55 and works hard labor in heat from 5am to 6pm, 13hrs, monday through friday. He is about 5′5" and only 125lbs. He used to weigh more, but he lost about 20lbs in half to one year. He’s always eaten healthy because he actually dislikes many junk foods. He eats a ton of food, about twice as much as I eat, and i eat normal. He recently saw his friends and they noticed his weight loss and were concerned that it may be diabetes.

He works where in a hot environment so he drinks a ton of water and goes to the bathroom often as well, which is like cause and effect. He’s worn glasses since 15 and told me just today his eyes couldn’t see really near things that were about 2feet from him. the further stuff were okay though.
It makes sense for him to be tired because he is working long hours of hard labor and he is aging. He is tired after work, but not excessive, i would say. He is cheerful after dinner, talks with us for a while, walk the dogs, and we all go to sleep around 10PM. is this "tired" enough to indicate diabetes? Recently he’s been cutting walking times short though bcause he says he feels like falling asleep. He has really strong will power to finish the tasks that needs to be done.

Also, my dad has been complaining of an itchy spot on his right leg for days and said it feels better when he puts hydrocortison cream on it… but that was like a week ago and i saw him putting on that stuff again last night.

How close are my dad’s indications to those of diabetes symptoms? i can’t determine the depth or severity of his case. I am pretty concerned though.

I live in a pretty small town, so what are my best bets at finding a blood sugar meter? What is the best(affordable as well) meter i could get my hands on quick? I have a walmart, local pharmacies, riteaid, and walgreen.

Thanks for reading all this to help me. I really appreciate it!!
Oh, btw, my dad said diabetes does not run in his family.

I was wondering what a convenient monitor for type 2 would be that I could purchase at a pharmacy like CVS, or Walgreens? Thanks a lot.

Correlation between sugar in fruits and diabetes?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Hi I’m trying to eat very healthy (Zero salt added to food/low amounts of oil in my diet). I am thinking about eating 1 large grapefruit everyday and making a habit of eating other fruits too. I have found that grapefruit as well as other fruits contain high amounts of sugar. My family has a history of type 2 diabetes and I’m wondering what amount is safe for consumption. Is there a correlation between eating grapefruits and other fruits and increasing chances of diabetes?

I’m male, 22, 6 ft 2, 175 lbs, 32 inch waist.

Here is where I found the nutrition info for grapefruit:

http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-grapefruit-i9111?size=2

Based on this I will be consuming about 24g of sugar on grapefruit alone.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.
